The Charleston District, USACE awarded this service contract for constructing sand fencing and planting dune vegetation within approximately 46,960 linear feet of beach

Sand fencing was the first part of this project to be constructed. It consisted of 4-foot high slat and wire snow fencing arranged V-sections with two 10-foot long panels at 90 degrees to one another. A 5-foot gap between each V-section allows sea turtles to reach the dunes landward of the fence.

The dune vegetation included Panicum amarum 'Northpa' (Bitter Panicum) and Uniola paniculata (Sea Oats). These were planted in rows beginning at the ocean side of the fence panel posts and extending 9.0 feet across the beach fill away from the ocean.
